Music Education Bachelor's Degree

As an NSU music education major, you can learn to teach music to K-12 students, perform and create music, and develop students’ understanding and appreciation of the art of music. We have two emphasis (Instrumental and Vocal): The instrumental emphasis is for you if you’d like to teach K-12 instrumental music and supervise school music programs. The vocal emphasis prepares you to teach K-12 vocal and general music and supervise school music programs.

 

Music Bachelor's Degree

The music program teaches you to leverage critical thinking skills and develop discipline through the study of music to pursue a broader array of professional opportunities in music as well as other fields that require creative skills. The program is designed to provide you with the opportunity to pursue music in a formal setting while allowing you time to pursue your unique interests alongside broader course offerings in the liberal arts.

Art Education Bachelor's Degree

Through our program, you’ll not only dive into an applied art study of your choice, but you’ll also gain the knowledge and skills needed to thrive as an educator. As you take courses across the fields of art and education, you’ll build your content competency and prepare for licensure. When you graduate, you’ll be prepared to run an engaging and interactive classroom, inspiring the next generation of artists.

 

Sociology Bachelor's Degree

As a sociology major at Northern State University, you’ll hone your skills in analysis and problem solving, comparative thinking, writing, and critical inquiry. Equipped with these skills, you’ll have a strong foundation for a career in social work, law, social justice, nonprofit organizations, administration, government, business, or medicine. In addition, your sociology coursework will provide the theoretical and methodological training you’ll need for advanced graduate work in all the behavioral sciences. 

Math Bachelor's Degree

As a math major at Northern State University, each of your upper-level math courses will provide you with the foundational knowledge needed to pursue further mathematical study or a quantitative career outside of mathematics. In addition, if you’re interested in applying the mathematical skills you’ll acquire from our program to other pursuits, Northern offers minors or double majors in related fields such as chemistry, finance, or pre-law.

 

History Bachelor's Degree

As a history major at Northern State University, you'll use the historical method to perform research and clearly present findings, identifying and explaining the significance of important events and issues in American and world history. Dedicated NSU faculty will help you make connections across time and space while fine-tuning your writing and critical thinking skills. You'll learn to read thoughtfully, write effectively, and reach your full potential as a citizen. 

English Bachelor's Degree

A degree in English gives you the skills to succeed in a variety of professional directions, including journalism, law, medicine, communications, promotional work, writing & editing, and management. An English major is a smart choice whether you are certain of your career path, or still unsure of your plans.
